Community-Wide the 39th Annual Adloyadah
Featuring the return of Felicia Fuksman’s and the New American Hamantaschen (available in poppy, prune, apricot and chocolate)
Sunday, March 16, 2008
12:00pm - 4:00pm • Uptown Campus
The 39th Annual Adloyadah will be hosted at the Uptown Jewish Community Center, 5342 St. Charles Avenue, on Sunday, March 16 from 12:00pm until 4:00pm.
Adloyadah means "until one does not know the difference" between blessing Mordechai and cursing Haman and also refers to Purim carnivals and celebrations that take place in the streets of Israel during Purim. Purim is celebrated on the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Adar and as part of the festivities the Megillah, the Book of Esther, is read from a scroll. The readings detail the story of how Esther and Mordechai were able to thwart Haman and save the Jews of Persia from destruction at the hands of King Ahashuerus. It is a story of political intrigue, wickedness, virtue, suspense and history celebrated with enthusiasm at the JCC.
The day will feature Jewish delicacies from New Orleans’ best kosher food purveyors including Casablanca and Kosher Cajun Deli. From New York style deli, Israeli salads, falafel, matzo ball soup to the traditional Purim treat, Hamentashen, patrons will be able to indulge in all the Food Festival has to offer, including delicious treats for every taste and appetite at very reasonable prices.
The JCC backfield (gymnasium in case of rain) will be transformed into a carnival complete with rides, music and a perennial New Orleans treat, snowball. The event is open to the public. Tickets will be sold for rides. As a special value, the JCC is once again offering the All-Day Ride pass for children.
Wear a costume for our costume contest! Come eat, drink and make merry at Adloyadah!
